Good to know: 6 things that make a Venice trip easier
- A single vaporetto ticket costs 9.50 EUR, a 72-hour pass 45 EUR. Venice is walkable (getting lost is normal). From Marco Polo, take the Alilaguna boat or a bus.
- Day-visitor fee: 5-10 EUR on selected days from April to July (exempt if you stay in a hotel). San Marco and the Doge's Palace require timed online tickets.
- Acqua alta (high water) can occur from November to February, with sirens and temporary walkways. February brings Carnival, January is foggy and uncrowded, and November is quiet.
- Cicchetti cost 1.5-3 EUR and an ombra 2 EUR, standing at a bacaro. A sit-down meal is 25-40 EUR, and a café on San Marco 10+ EUR.
- Coperto (cover charge) is 3-5 EUR. The official gondola fare is 90 EUR for 30 minutes and can be shared (up to 6 people).
- Watch for pickpockets on bridges and in crowds. Suitcase wheels struggle on cobbled streets, so pack light.
