Duomo and city centre

Good to know: 6 things that make a Florence trip easier

  1. Florence is walkable (the centre is a ZTL, closed to cars). Take the bus (SITA) to Siena and San Gimignano; for Chianti, use a car or a tour. Tram T2 runs to the airport.
  2. Uffizi, Accademia, dome: buy timed tickets online weeks ahead. The first Sunday is free (and crowded). Firenze Card costs 85 EUR for 72 hours.
  3. November to February is quiet and 8–12°C. There are no museum queues, December brings the Christmas market, and November is olive oil harvest in Chianti.
  4. Lampredotto 5 EUR, schiacciata 8 EUR, trattoria 20–30 EUR, bistecca 50–60 EUR/kg. Coperto (cover charge) 2–3 EUR, coffee at the bar 1.30 EUR.
  5. Tap water is safe to drink. Cover shoulders and knees in the Duomo and churches.
  6. The Vasari Corridor has reopened (reserve through the Uffizi).
