Good to know: 6 things that make a Rhodes trip easier

  1. Renting a car is essential for Lindos, Prasonisi and the west; KTEL buses run regularly to the east coast (Lindos 1.5 hours). The airport bus costs 3 EUR.
  2. Summers are 30-35°C with the meltemi wind. Visit the Lindos Acropolis at 08:00 and beaches in the afternoon; butterflies are out June to September, and August is very crowded.
  3. The palace costs 12 EUR (April-October), the Lindos Acropolis 12 and the Symi ferry 30; tavernas cost 20-30. When tipping, round up the bill.
  4. The ferry from Marmaris takes 1 hour (Turkish citizens need a Schengen visa); there is also a summer ferry from Fethiye.
  5. Try pitaroudia, melekouni (sesame and honey bar), souma (grape spirit) and Symi shrimp, plus Embona wines.
  6. Pickpockets are rare in the Old Town; no motor vehicles are allowed in, so walk with your suitcase.
