Good to know: 6 things that make a Rhodes trip easier

  1. A hire car is essential (Lindos, Prasonisi, the west). KTEL buses run regularly along the east coast (Lindos takes 1.5 hours). The airport bus costs 3 EUR.
  2. From November to March it is 12-18°C, most beach facilities and Lindos tavernas are closed, and the Old Town and villages are quiet. April-May and October are ideal (sea at 22°C).
  3. The palace costs 12 EUR (April-October), the Lindos acropolis 12 and the Symi ferry 30. A taverna meal runs 20-30. For tips, round up the bill.
  4. The ferry from Marmaris takes 1 hour (Schengen visa needed for Turkish citizens). There is also a summer ferry from Fethiye.
  5. Try pitaroudia, melekouni (sesame and honey bar), souma (grape spirit) and Symi shrimp, plus Embona wines.
  6. Pickpockets are rare in the Old Town. Motor vehicles cannot enter, so you will need to walk with your luggage.
