The TripWalkers Athens itinerary runs 7 days and lays out 34 stops, hour by hour, for June–September. The first three days:

Day 1 · 08:00–15:00

Acropolis and Plaka

    The Parthenon: book an online timed ticket for the 08:00 opening (30 EUR, or 36 EUR for the 7-site combined ticket). In summer it may close between 12:00 and 17:00 because of the heat.

    A museum with glass floors, the Parthenon frieze and a cafe with views of the Acropolis.

Good to know: 6 things that make an Athens trip easier

  1. The metro has 3 lines; the airport metro takes 40 minutes and costs 10 EUR. Take the tram to the Riviera, the KTEL bus to Sounion (Pedion Areos) and ferries from Piraeus to the islands.
  2. The Acropolis costs 30 EUR, with online timed entry; the 7-site combined ticket costs 36 EUR and is valid for 5 days. Entry is free on the first Sunday (November to March).
  3. Summer reaches 35-40°C: visit the Acropolis at 08:00, a museum at midday and a Riviera beach in the afternoon. In August the locals are away on the islands.
  4. Souvlaki costs 4-5 EUR and a taverna meal 15-25 EUR; the coffee to order is freddo espresso. Tip by rounding up; there is no coperto (cover charge).
  5. Pickpockets are common on the metro and in Monastiraki; Omonia is deserted at night.
  6. On Sundays there is the Monastiraki flea market and the Syntagma ceremony; museums may be closed on Tuesdays.
