Good to know: 6 things that make a Los Angeles trip easier

  1. LA is a car city: hire a car (parking 20-40 USD). The Metro B Line is useful between Hollywood and Downtown. An Uber between the coast and the city costs 20-40 USD.
  2. Winter is 18-20°C and sunny, with a few rainy weeks in January and February. It's whale season in Malibu, the beaches are quiet and it's Oscar season.
  3. The Getty and the Broad are free (booking required), as is Griffith. Universal costs 109+ USD.
  4. Tacos cost 3-5 USD (Guisados, Leo's), In-N-Out 10 USD, and a restaurant meal 30-50 USD. Tip 18-20%. Tax is 9.5% and isn't included in the listed price.
  5. Take the DASH bus up to Griffith (the car park fills up) and arrive 1 hour before sunset.
  6. The sea is cold (18-20°C) with waves and currents, so watch for the lifeguard flags.
