The TripWalkers Athens itinerary runs 7 days and lays out 34 stops, hour by hour, for October–May. The first three days:

  1. Day 1 Acropolis and Plaka
  2. Day 2 Ancient Agora and Monastiraki
  3. Day 3 Lycabettus, Kolonaki and museums

Day 1 · 08:00–15:00

Acropolis and Plaka

    The Parthenon. Book a timed online ticket for the 08:00 opening (30 EUR, or 36 EUR for the 7-site combined ticket). In summer it may close from 12:00 to 17:00 because of the heat.

    A museum with glass floors, the Parthenon frieze and a café with Acropolis views.

Good to know: 6 things that make an Athens trip easier

  1. The metro has 3 lines; the airport metro takes 40 minutes and costs 10 EUR. Take the tram to the Riviera, a KTEL bus to Sounion (Pedion Areos), and a Piraeus ferry to the islands.
  2. The Acropolis costs 30 EUR with a timed online ticket. The 7-site combined ticket costs 36 EUR (valid for 5 days). Entry is free on the first Sunday (November to March).
  3. Winter is sunny at 10-15°C, with no crowds. Lake Vouliagmeni stays warm in winter, and sunset at Sounion is at 17:00.
  4. Souvlaki costs 4-5 EUR and a taverna meal 15-25 EUR. Drink freddo espresso as your coffee, and round up the bill as a tip; there is no coperto (cover charge).
  5. Watch for pickpockets on the metro and in Monastiraki. Omonia is quiet at night.
  6. On Sundays there is the Monastiraki flea market and the Syntagma ceremony. Museums may be closed on Tuesdays.
