Good to know: 6 things that make a Sapanca trip easier

  1. Sapanca is 1.5 hours from Istanbul (by motorway, or by high-speed train from Arifiye). Explore the lake by car or bike. Maşukiye and Kartepe are 20 minutes away.
  2. It gets very busy on summer weekends, so head to breakfast places before 10:00.
  3. Trout, spread-style breakfast, ıslama köfte (Adapazarı) and chestnuts are local specialities.
  4. Bungalow stays are Sapanca's signature; they cost half as much on weekdays.
  5. The Kartepe summit is cool in summer at around 10°C, so bring a cardigan.
  6. The lakeside path is 5 km long, and the morning mist is lovely for photos.
