Short answer
The TripWalkers Fethiye itinerary runs 7 days and lays out 33 stops, hour by hour, for June–September. The first three days:
- Day 1 Ölüdeniz classics: Babadağ flight, the lagoon and locals' Kıdrak
- Day 2 Fethiye centre: Lycian tombs, Paspatur and the fish market ritual
- Day 3 A day on the bay: 12 Islands boat and Çalış sunset
Staying less? Start with the first days — TripWalkers uses the opening days of this plan for shorter trips too. Day 6 is a day trip out of the city. Food, entry fees and local transport come to about 3,200 TL a day (excluding accommodation and flights).
Day 1 · 08:30–20:45
Ölüdeniz classics: Babadağ flight, the lagoon and locals' Kıdrak
Nature
Babadağ Tandem Paragliding (Ölüdeniz)
Book one of the first flights of the morning: the air is calmer, the light turns the lagoon turquoise and there is no queue. You take off from 1,700 m, spend 30-40 minutes in the air and land at Belcekız. The video/photo package costs extra (1,000-1,500 TL), so ask your pilot beforehand. Keep breakfast light and wear closed shoes.
≈ 6,000 TL per personTickets: GetYourGuideNature
Kumburnu Beach (Ölüdeniz Nature Park)
This is the postcard side of the lagoon. The nature park charges an entry fee per person at the gate, and sunbeds cost extra. Walk to the very tip of the Kumburnu spit: the water is shallow and turquoise, and the crowds are far away. For photos, skip the lagoon side and head to the sand spit where the open sea meets the lagoon.
≈ 120 TL per personFood
Kumsal Pide (Ölüdeniz)
A pide place on the back street behind the Belcekız seafront, run by the same family for 30 years. It fills you up for half the price of the beach restaurants. Order the pide with diced lamb and kaşar cheese, or the one with minced meat and egg, plus ayran; the spicy ezme (chilli-tomato paste) on the side is free. If it's busy, get it to go and take it to Kıdrak.
≈ 700 TL per person- 30 min · travel, break, free time
Nature
Kıdrak Beach
A pine-shaded nature park 3 km south of Ölüdeniz, where people from Fethiye go instead of the crowded lagoon. It's 5 minutes by the Faralya dolmuş, with a per-person entry fee and optional sunbeds. The sea gets deep quickly and the beach is a mix of pebbles and sand. In the afternoon the mountain shadow falls over the beach and it cools down, so it's worth staying for sunset.
≈ 100 TL per person- 45 min · travel, break, free time
Food
Oba Restaurant (Oba Beach Hotel, Ölüdeniz)
A garden restaurant in the back row of the Belcekız beach strip, run by the same family for years. It's much better value than the places on the seafront with photo menus. Order the lamb tandır (slow-roasted lamb) in a clay pot or the village-style chicken shish, and don't miss the homemade rice pudding. Afterwards, take an evening walk along Belcekız beach; the crowds thin out after 21:00.
≈ 900 TL per person
Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- Angora Restaurant ÖlüdenizA family restaurant in Belcekız with a large garden and mostly Turkish cuisine. At lunch, ask for grilled köfte with meze or chicken cooked on a clay tile. They serve the spread breakfast until 12:00. You get a better price if you pay in cash.
- Belcekız Beach (Ölüdeniz)Ölüdeniz's main public beach, free to enter and where the paragliders land. The rocky side at the left end of the beach is calmer and the water is clearer. If you don't want to rent a sunbed, just lay out your towel. In the early evening the sky fills with parachutes, which is ideal for photos.
Day 2 · 09:00–20:45
Fethiye centre: Lycian tombs, Paspatur and the fish market ritual
Culture
Amyntas Rock Tombs
Fethiye's landmark is a Lycian temple tomb from the 4th century BC. Go when it opens at 09:00, because the stone steps turn into an oven by noon. Buy your ticket at the booth or use the Museum Pass; the fee is per person. From the ledge in front of the tomb you can see the whole bay and Knights Island. The best photo angle is looking up from the landing in the middle of the stairs.
≈ 200 TL per personLandmark
Paspatur Bazaar
Fethiye's old Greek quarter. In the morning there are no tourists and shopkeepers are drinking tea. The side streets around the Old Mosque have handmade leather sandals and spice sellers. Instead of the souvenir 'Fethiye lokum', buy sweetgum oil or pine honey. For a coffee break, step into one of the Ottoman houses with a courtyard; expect to pay 150-200 TL.
FreeFood
Hilmi Restaurant (Fethiye Fish Market)
The Fethiye ritual: pick your fish by the kilo at the central stall (sea bream, sea bass or the catch of the season), hand it to Hilmi, and it arrives with a cooking fee, salad and bread. Haggling at the stall is normal; ask for '1 kilo for the two of us'. Lunch is quieter than dinner and the same fish costs less. You can have prawns cooked the same way.
≈ 1,200 TL per personCulture
Telmessos Ancient Theatre
A restored Hellenistic theatre right across from the harbour. It's free, and most tourists walk past without noticing it. The view of the marina from the upper rows makes a good photo. Keep the visit short, as there is no shade; rest under the park trees next door.
FreeNature
Boncuklu Bay (Karagözler Public Beach)
A free bay inside the city where locals swim, on the Karagözler peninsula, 10 minutes from the centre by dolmuş. There are showers and changing cabins but no sunbeds, so bring a towel. Knights Island sits right opposite. The best moment for photos is late afternoon, when the light softens behind the shipyard.
Free- 45 min · travel, break, free time
Food
Taşköprü Adana Kebap Fethiye
On Adnan Menderes Boulevard, near the Muğla junction. This is the kebab place Fethiye locals go to escape tourist prices; even on Ekşi Sözlük people say 'go here'. Order the Taşköprü Adana, thin lahmacun and şalgam (spicy turnip juice). Portions are standard Adana size, so one and a half portions are enough for two. It's 10 minutes from the centre by dolmuş, and cash is preferred.
≈ 900 TL per person
Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- Meğri Restaurant (Paspatur)A historic tradesmen's restaurant on the edge of Paspatur, where you choose from a bain-marie counter. The classic combination is the day's olive-oil dish, beans with meat and rice. It gets crowded after 13:00, so go early.
- Fethiye Tuesday MarketThe region's biggest market, set up next to the stadium every Tuesday. Look for village cheese, sweetgum honey, fresh figs and kilim stalls. Haggling is a must, and the freshest produce is there between 10:00 and 11:00. If you're not there on Tuesday, the Friday Village Market does the same job.
Day 3 · 08:30–21:00
A day on the bay: 12 Islands boat and Çalış sunset
Landmark
Uğur Mumcu Park (Fethiye Waterfront)
Take a morning walk along the harbour before boarding. Simit sellers and tea vendors work here, and a simit, tea and cheese breakfast costs 150-200 TL. The boat piers are right next to the park, so be at the pier at 09:15. In the morning light the marina and the rock tombs fit in the same frame.
FreeNature
12 Islands Boat Tour (Fethiye Harbour)
Fethiye's classic boat day, with swimming stops at Kızılada, the Yassıca Islands, Tersane Island, Aquarium Bay and Göcek Island. Lunch is included. Choose a small boat with 40 people at most, as the big ones are noisy. Drinks cost extra, so bring water shoes and a snorkel. Yassıca's shallow lagoon between the islands is a good photo spot.
≈ 2,050 TL per personTickets: GetYourGuide- 30 min · travel, break, free time
Nature
Çalış Beach
15 minutes from the harbour by the Çalış dolmuş, this 4 km pebble public beach is free. It has one of the best sunsets in Türkiye, as the sun sets behind Knights Island. The northern end of the promenade (the canal side) is calmer. Take one last swim, then walk along the promenade.
FreeFood
Çalış Balıkçısı
A terrace fish restaurant on the Çalış shoreline with fewer tourists than the fish market and homemade meze plates. Have the catch of the day picked from the counter and ask for sea beans and fava on the side. One fish plus 4 mezes is enough for two. For a sunset table, call at 18:30 to reserve, as the terrace is small.
≈ 1,500 TL per person
Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- Oben Restaurant ÇalışA family restaurant on the Çalış promenade facing the sunset. The prawn casserole and fried calamari stand out. Seafront tables fill up by 19:00, so make a reservation. If you pay the bill in cash, a small treat comes with it.
- Knights IslandA small inhabited island in the middle of the bay, 10 minutes by small boats leaving from the Çalış canal. You can swim from rock and wooden piers around the island, and watch the sunset from the island looking toward Fethiye. Be sure to ask the captain about the last boat time.
Day 4 · 09:00–21:00
Kayaköy: ghost village, Soğuksu trail and Gemiler's Byzantine island
Culture
Kayaköy Ruins (Levissi)
A Greek village emptied by the 1923 population exchange, with nearly 400 stone houses and two churches. The ticket booth opens at 09:00 and the Museum Pass is valid. Visit the mosaic floor of the Lower Church (Panayia Pirgiotissa). For the shot that takes in the whole village, climb the slope to the Upper Church. There is no shade, so bring water.
≈ 250 TL per personNature
Soğuksu Bay (Cold Water Bay)
A 40-minute descent from the western end of Kayaköy on a marked Lycian Way path. There is no vehicle road, so almost nobody but locals knows it. Cold freshwater wells up from the bottom of the bay, and the sea is clear and ice cold. Boats stop by after 13:00; before that the bay is yours. The climb back takes 50 minutes, so go slowly in the heat.
FreeFood
Cin Bal Kebap Salonu
Kayaköy's legendary 'cook it yourself' grill house. Choose your meat by the kilo at the counter (lamb chops or ribs) and a grill is brought to your table. 800 g of meat plus embers-roasted sides and ayran is enough for two. The vine-house arbour is cool at lunch. At weekends it fills with Fethiye families at noon, while weekdays are relaxed.
≈ 1,000 TL per person- 30 min · travel, break, free time
Culture
Gemiler Island (Aya Nikola Island)
Take the 7 km pine forest road from Kayaköy down to Gemiler Beach. The beach entrance is paid, and from the beach small boats reach the island in 10 minutes. The island has 4 Byzantine churches and mosaic remains at sea level. From the hilltop church ruins you get a beach-and-island view in the light before sunset. The island entrance is a separate fee, and the Museum Pass is valid.
≈ 350 TL per person- 1 h · travel, break, free time
Food
Lebessos Wine House & Restaurant (Kayaköy)
A wine house in a stone building at the foot of the ghost village, with wine from its own vineyards and stone-oven dishes. Ask for the lamb tandır or the oven-baked vegetables with goat cheese, plus a local red wine. The village silhouette is lit at night, so ask for a garden table. The dolmuş back stops at 22:00, so arrange a taxi in advance.
≈ 1,200 TL per person
Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- Izela Restaurant KayaköyA garden restaurant directly opposite the ruins, with good meze and köfte on a clay tile. There is live Turkish music in the evenings, so call at 18:00 for a garden table. Tea is charged, so be aware beforehand.
- Af Kule MonasteryAn hour from Kayaköy on a marked path. This Byzantine monastery is carved into the cliff and looks 300 m straight down to the sea. There is no barrier, so don't go on a windy day. There is little shade on the way, so a hat and 1.5 litres of water are essential.
Day 5 · 09:30–22:00
North Fethiye: Katrancı pines, Yanıklar's eco farm and sweetgum shade
Nature
Katrancı Bay Nature Park
At km 17 of the Fethiye-Göcek road, and the Göcek dolmuş drops you at the gate. It's a picnic and swimming bay for people from Fethiye, with pine forest reaching down to the sea and almost no one there before 10:00. There is a per-person entry fee. You don't need a sunbed: spread a towel under a tree. The small second bay on the right is calmer.
≈ 100 TL per person- 30 min · travel, break, free time
Culture
Pastoral Vadi Ecological Living Farm
A 42-hectare organic farm in Yanıklar village, on the bank of the Kargı Çayı. They lay the table with produce from their own vegetable garden. Spend the midday heat in the coolness of the adobe house by the stream, and buy village bread from the bread oven before you leave.
≈ 1,000 TL per person- 30 min · travel, break, free time
Nature
Günlüklü Bay
A bay where rare sweetgum (günlük) trees reach all the way down to the sea. The shade stays cool even in the afternoon and the sea is wave-free. It's inside the small Kargı Nature Park, which charges per vehicle or per person. The picnic tables under the trees are free, so you don't need to enter the paid sunbed area.
≈ 250 TL per person- 45 min · travel, break, free time
Food
Nefis Pide Salonu (next to Old Mosque, Fethiye)
Fethiye's pide institution since 1982, serving thin, rimless pide. Ask for the one with kaşar and sucuk or the one with kavurma (braised meat); three pides are plenty for two. It's at the foot of Paspatur, and there's a queue at 20:00, so go at 19:00. Paying in cash speeds things up.
≈ 700 TL per personLandmark
Deep Blue Bar (Paspatur, Fethiye)
The oldest bar on Paspatur's bar street, with live acoustic or rock on summer evenings and a mostly local crowd. Beer is 250-350 TL and cocktails 400+. The inside is loud, so ask for a street table. Live music starts at 21:30.
≈ 300 TL per person
Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- Yengeç Restaurant (Karagözler)A seafood restaurant over the water on the Karagözler seafront road. Try the prawn casserole and grilled octopus, and be sure to reserve for a sunset table. They bring meze on a tray rather than plates, so be selective.
- Yanıklar BeachYanıklar village's free pebble-and-sand beach stretches for kilometres. There are no facilities, so there is no one around. The side where Akgöl meets the sea is a caretta nesting area, so don't use lights at night. Bring an umbrella for shade.
Day 6 · 08:30–22:00Day trip
Saklıkent day: gorge, waterfall and sunset at Fethiye Castle
Nature
Saklıkent Gorge & Gizlikent Waterfall Jeep Safari (Fethiye)

You walk through ice-cold water in the gorge (rental water shoes cost 100-150 TL, or bring your own), swim at the Gizlikent waterfall, and the trout lunch at Yakapark is included. You will get wet: bring a change of clothes, a waterproof pouch for your phone, and 300-400 TL cash on top of the tour price.
≈ 1,400 TL per personTickets: GetYourGuide- 1 h · travel, break, free time
Landmark
Fethiye Castle
A Byzantine and Crusader castle above the city, free to enter. It's a 15-minute walk up through the neighbourhood streets above the Rock Tombs. The whole bay, the marina and Knights Island lie at your feet. In July the sun sets around 20:15, and the light is best between 19:00 and 19:30. The castle walls have no protection, so don't stand at the edge.
FreeFood
Seçkin Restaurant (Taşyaka, Fethiye)
A tradesmen's restaurant open 24 hours opposite the bus station. Dolmuş drivers and locals eat here, and you'll be the only tourist. If it's not on your safari programme, tell the driver on the way back to 'stop at Tlos'. The Museum Pass is valid. Climb to the top of the acropolis for a panorama of the Eşen Plain.

From the upper car park of Kabak village, follow the Lycian Way markers for a 30-40 minute descent among pines and olive trees. Cool off in the small waterfall and natural pool. The water drops in late summer but still flows in July. The path is narrow, so wear closed shoes.

Plan B — if it's crowded or closed (2)
- George House FaralyaA guesthouse-restaurant in Faralya known for its terrace overlooking Butterfly Valley, serving home cooking and gözleme. Go early for a view table, as it fills up after 12:30. It's right above the valley viewpoint, so you can combine the two stops.
- Lycian Way Faralya-Kabak TrailThe most scenic 6 km stage of the Lycian Way, from Faralya to Kabak, with red-and-white markers and 2-2.5 hours of walking. If you don't set off at 08:00, the midday sun will burn. Finish in Kabak, swim and return by dolmuş.
Hidden gem: Pastoral Vadi Ecological Living Farm
A 42-hectare organic farm 15 km north of Fethiye, in Yanıklar village on the bank of the Kargı Çayı: stone, wood and adobe houses, its own vegetable garden, a bread oven and yoga/retreat halls. Because tourist traffic stays on the Ölüdeniz-Kayaköy line, the 'village table on a farm' experience is mostly known to the ecological-living community from Istanbul and to locals. Tour buses don't come here.
- How to get in
- From the Yanıklar turn-off on the Fethiye-Göcek highway, it's 3 km inland and 10 minutes from Katrancı Bay. For a day visit and meal without staying, call at least 1 day ahead and say you want 'lunch plus garden tour'. In summer, capacity is limited when camp or retreat groups are there. Without your own vehicle, take the Göcek dolmuş and get off at Yanıklar, then walk 30 minutes, or take a taxi from Fethiye.
- Local tip
- Ask for your meal in the shade of the adobe dining hall by the stream. In the afternoon, buy the sourdough village bread fresh from the stone oven and their own olive oil; since it isn't vacuum-packed, it won't spoil on the way. On days with a yoga or retreat programme, ask whether outsiders can join the morning session.
- When
- Open all 12 months. In summer (June-September) the vegetable garden is at its fullest, which is ideal for the variety of produce and the coolness by the stream. May and October are quieter.

Getting around: get a MuğlaKart (Muttaş Kent Kart)
Cash has been abolished on dolmuşes and municipal buses across Muğla. This card is accepted on all the Fethiye-Ölüdeniz, Fethiye-Kayaköy, Fethiye-Çalış, Fethiye-Göcek (Katrancı/Yanıklar) and Ölüdeniz-Faralya/Kabak lines. All the daily transport in the plan runs on these dolmuşes. The card is slightly cheaper than paying the full fare with a contactless bank card. Contactless credit/debit cards are accepted too, but where a foreign card doesn't work, MuğlaKart is the only reliable option.
Good to know: 7 things that make a Fethiye trip easier
- Cash is not accepted on Fethiye dolmuşes: you need a MuğlaKart or a contactless bank/credit card. Keep your card ready in your pocket, as the driver won't make change.
- In summer the sun is very harsh between 12:00 and 15:00, so the plan is built to have you in the sea or in the shade during those hours. Keep a hat, SPF 50 sunscreen and 1.5 litres of water in your bag every day.
- Tipping in restaurants is 5-10%. At the fish market, remember you buy the fish at the per-kilo price and then pay a 'cooking fee', so ask for the two items separately when you request the bill.
- Village roads away from the coast around Ölüdeniz and Kayaköy are deserted. Wear closed shoes when trekking, and share your location, as there are spots without phone signal.
- Boat and paragliding prices can change even within a day in mid-season. Book directly with the tour website or office rather than through the hotel reception, as hotel commission adds 20-30%.
- In small tradesmen's restaurants and at the market, cash is still king: carry 500-1,000 TL in small notes. At places that take cards, it's normal to say 'no' to anyone asking for a 'commission'.
- There are no protective barriers at the Kayaköy ruins or at the Butterfly Valley viewpoint. Don't walk backwards at the cliff edge for a photo; accidents happen every year.
