Day 1 · 09:30–22:30
Kaleiçi classics: Roman gate to meyhane
Landmark
Hadrian's Gate (Üçkapılar)
The three-arched gate dates from AD 130 and is the classic starting point for a guided Kaleiçi walk; the tour continues to the Fluted Minaret, the Broken Minaret, the Clock Tower and the Yacht Marina. A 09:30 start is ideal for both light and cooler air. Look through the glass floor panel under the arch at the Roman paving stones. Book a day ahead; if the group is small, the guide will also take you into Kaleiçi's hidden garden courtyards.

Bring a simit (sesame bread ring) and buy tea from the park's tea stand; locals jog here while tourists take photos.

Ayar Meyhane
A meyhane (tavern) in the Kılınçarslan streets of Kaleiçi, recognised by the Michelin-style gastronomy guide and also popular with locals. From the cold meze, go for fava, sea beans and octopus salad; ask for fried calamari as the warm starter and ask what the fish of the day is for the main. There is live fasıl music on Friday and Saturday and tables are hard to find, so call and reserve.

Shopping
Antalya Fishing Harbour
A working fishing harbour run by two fisheries cooperatives in Liman neighbourhood, Konyaaltı; coastal boats dock around 08:30 and the cooperative counter sells that morning's red mullet, sea bream and squid. No sales on Sunday. It is a fishermen's scene, not a tourist one: chat with the men mending nets and have tea from the tea stand. If you buy fish, ask for ice; instead of going to Şişçi Ramazan in the evening you can cook it at a seaside picnic.

- Phaselis Ancient CityA Lycian port city with three bays near Tekirova; the two ends of the ancient main street open onto two separate bays, and you can swim among the ruins in pine shade. Entry 10 €, Museum Pass valid; the north bay is the calmest.
Hidden gem: Antalya Fishing Harbour
At the western end of Konyaaltı, next to the commercial port, this is a working fishing harbour run by two fisheries cooperatives (S.S. Yeni Liman and S.S. Yeşil Antalya); coastal boats dock in the morning and fish is sold directly at the cooperative counter. Tourist guides describe Konyaaltı as beaches and beach clubs, and don't mention that 500 metres away there are craftsmen mending nets and a morning auction; this is Antalya's real fishing neighbourhood.
- How to get in
- At the entrance to Liman neighbourhood on the Antalya-Kemer road; take a Kemer-direction bus from the centre (Antalyakart) to the 'Liman' stop, then walk 5 minutes. The cooperative office and fish sales are open weekdays 08:30-17:30 and Saturday 08:30-12:30, closed Sunday; the liveliest time is 08:30-09:30 as the boats dock. You can walk freely on the quay, but don't board boats without permission.
- Local tip
- When buying fish at the cooperative counter, say 'clean and ice it' (temizleyip buzlayın); they do it free, and cooking it that evening on the grills at the Sarısu picnic area is a local habit. If you strike up a 'what came out this morning' chat with the fishermen at the tea stand beside the counter, they will tell you which Konyaaltı cove has clear water that week and which days are windy.
- When
- Year-round; however, during the 15 April-1 September trawl and purse-seine fishing ban only small coastal boats go out, so the counter has less variety but still offers red mullet, sea bream, squid and shrimp. The counter is fullest from September to April.

Getting around: get an Antalyakart
The one card that works on all of Antalya's municipal buses, the AntRay tram and the Nostalgia tram; where a single-use ticket costs 46 TL and tapping a credit card costs 50 TL, a ride with Antalyakart is 42 TL, and the transfer discount exists only on this card. Every Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı, Lara, Aksu and Varsak stop in the plan is on an Antalyakart line; for the Termessos, Köprülü and Olympos days you need a car or a dolmuş from the bus station, and the card won't get you there. One card is enough for two people over 7 days, as it can be tapped twice.
Good to know: 7 things that make an Antalya trip easier
- Payment: Cards work in Kaleiçi and seafront restaurants, but tradesmen's lokantas, the Çakırlar breakfast places and the Fishing Harbour counters mostly want cash; carry 2,000-3,000 TL in cash.
- Transport: Within the city, buses and trams (AntRay/Nostalgia) with an Antalyakart are enough; the Lara, Aksu and Konyaaltı lines run frequently. For the Termessos, Köprülü and Olympos days you need to rent a car or use dolmuşes from the bus station.
- Tipping: 5-10% is enough in restaurants and is not expected in tradesmen's lokantas. At the hamam, a separate tip of 100-200 TL for the attendant is customary.
- Dress: At the ancient cities (Termessos, Perge, Olympos) you need closed shoes, a hat and at least 1.5 L of water; there is no shade. Shoulders and knees must be covered when entering mosques (Fluted Minaret, Tekeli Mehmet Pasha).
- Season warning: In July it reaches 38-40°C between 12:00 and 15:00; finish the ancient cities by 08:30 and spend midday in the sea or shade. The sea is around 28°C, and the evening cool arrives after 20:30.
- Safety: At cliff beaches (like Erdal Inönü) rock and depth begin suddenly, so enter via the wooden platform; at the cliff edge where the Düden Waterfall meets the sea, don't climb over the railing. Life jackets and helmets are compulsory for rafting.
- Local etiquette: In Antalya piyaz is made with tahini and comes alongside köfte as a main meze, not as a 'salad'; tea at Tophane is drunk slowly from a glass, and coffee in Kaleiçi from a small cup. In Çakırlar a table is held for a two-hour breakfast chat, and nobody hurries.
