Good to know: 6 things that make a Phuket trip easier
- There is no public transport in Phuket: use a scooter (licence and helmet required), Grab or a hotel taxi. Tuk-tuks are expensive, so haggle.
- June to October is monsoon season: don't swim when the red flag is up (currents), boat tours may be cancelled, and showers fall in the afternoon. Favour Phang Nga Bay and indoor activities.
- Book boat tours online with hotel pickup included, and bring seasickness pills and reef-safe sunscreen.
- Choose seafood by the kilo at Rawai market; the cooking fee is charged separately per person.
- Cover shoulders and knees at temples; on Bangla Road, ask the price of drinks first.
- Don't ride elephants; choose ethical sanctuaries.
