Good to know: 6 things that make a Krabi trip easier

  1. Stay in Ao Nang (Railay is expensive, Krabi Town is quiet). The longtail to Railay costs 100 THB; Grab and scooters are available; the airport minibus costs 150.
  2. May to October is the RAIN season: afternoon downpours, rough seas, some island tours cancelled, and Maya Bay CLOSED in August and September. It's cheap and green, so book morning tours.
  3. Fill in the TDAC digital arrival card; carry cash in THB. Island tours cost 1,000-2,500 plus the 400 park fee; a taverna meal costs 200-400; round up your tips.
  4. Go to Tiger Cave at 07:00 (heat and monkeys), take the 08:00 slot at Maya Bay, and expect the Four Islands to be crowded midday. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes.
  5. You'll get wet on the morning longtail (bring a dry bag); ATMs are few in Railay.
  6. Southern Thai food: massaman, gaeng som (sour curry), roti and seafood with coconut. Muslim villages serve halal food.
