Day 1 · 09:00–20:30

Marmaris Castle and Icmeler

    Marmaris Castle

    Suleiman the Magnificent's fortress with a small archaeology museum. It's cool in the morning, with marina views from the walls. Museum Pass accepted.

    Marmaris Bazaar

    The old bazaar below the castle sells honey, leather and textiles. Haggling is normal.

    Icmeler Beach

    Take the 09:30 boat from Marmaris (about 1,000 TL, lunch and drinks included). It's a sandbar in the middle of the sea in Orhaniye Bay, where you walk 600 m through the water.

Good to know: 6 things that make a Marmaris trip easier

  1. From central Marmaris, dolmus and water buses run to Icmeler, Turunc and Paradise Island. For Selimiye-Bozburun and Dalyan, a car is the most practical option.
  2. Buy boat tours from the seafront stalls the day before (about 1,000 TL, lunch included). Bring shallow-water shoes for Kizkumu.
  3. Summer heat reaches 38°C: swim between 12:00 and 16:00 and visit the ancient cities in the morning.
  4. Marmaris pine honey and seafood borek are local specialities. Haggling in the bazaar is normal.
  5. Public beaches in the centre, Icmeler and Selimiye are free. Beach club sunbeds cost 300-1,000 TL.
  6. Dalaman Airport is 1.5 hours away. The Havas airport bus leaves from the bus station.
