Good to know: 6 things that make a Krabi trip easier

  1. Stay in Ao Nang (Railay is pricey, Krabi Town is quiet). The Railay longtail costs 100 THB; use Grab or a scooter. The airport minibus is 150.
  2. November to April is the dry season: 30°C and glassy seas (the best time). December to February is crowded and expensive, and April brings Songkran.
  3. Fill in the TDAC digital arrival card; carry cash in THB. Island tours cost 1,000-2,500 plus a 400 park fee; a taverna meal is 200-400; round up your tips.
  4. Do Tiger Cave at 07:00 (heat and monkeys), take the 08:00 slot at Maya Bay, and expect the Four Islands to be crowded at midday. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes.
  5. You will get wet on the morning longtail (bring a dry bag); there are few ATMs in Railay.
  6. Southern Thai food: massaman, gaeng som (sour curry), roti and coconut seafood. Muslim villages serve halal food.
