Good to know: 6 things that make a Jaipur trip easier

  1. In Jaipur, use auto-rickshaws and Uber; hire a car for the day for the forts (~2,500 INR). The composite ticket (1,500 INR for foreigners) covers 8 monuments over 2 days.
  2. June to September brings 40°C heat and the monsoon: plan sightseeing for 08:00-12:00 and after 16:00, and visit palaces and museums at midday. October to March is ideal (20-28°C); mornings can be foggy from November to January.
  3. Try dal baati churma, pyaz kachori, ghewar and lassi. There is no meat or alcohol in Pushkar. Tip 10%.
  4. Monument entry costs foreigners 200-1,000 INR. Amber is cool and empty at 08:00; take a jeep instead of an elephant ride.
  5. Book the Ranthambore safari online 3 months ahead (tiger zones 1-5). Staying one night isn't essential for the safari, but it's more comfortable.
  6. Haggle: aim for a third of the first price. Buy block-printed fabric from the makers in Sanganer.
