Good to know: 6 things that make a Jaipur trip easier
- Use auto-rickshaws and Uber in Jaipur; hire a car by the day for the forts (about 2,500 INR). The composite ticket (1,500 INR for foreigners) covers 8 monuments over 2 days.
- October to March is the best season (15-28°C). January brings the Kite Festival, and March brings Holi (colourful and chaotic).
- Try dal baati churma, pyaz kachori, ghewar and lassi. There is no meat or alcohol in Pushkar. Tip 10%.
- Monument entry costs foreigners 200-1,000 INR. Amber is cool and empty at 08:00; take a jeep rather than an elephant.
- Book the Ranthambore safari online 3 months ahead (tiger zones 1-5). Staying overnight isn't essential for the safari, but it's more comfortable.
- Haggling: start at a third of the first price. Buy block-printed fabric from the makers in Sanganer.
