Good to know: 6 things that make an Eskişehir trip easier

  1. The high-speed train (YHT) takes 2.5 hours from Istanbul and 1.5 hours from Ankara. The city tram (ESTRAM) goes everywhere in town. You will need a car for the Phrygian Valley and Sivrihisar.
  2. Çibörek, balaban köfte, met helvası and Tatar mantı are local specialities, and Odunpazarı has plenty of çibörek places.
  3. Winters are cold (-5°C) and snowy. Odunpazarı looks lovely under snow, and the museums are indoor options.
  4. Odunpazarı Modern Museum is closed on Mondays. Entry is about 300 TL.
  5. It is a student city: cafes are cheap and the evenings are lively.
  6. Roads in the Phrygian Valley are dusty in summer, so set off early in the morning.
