  2. Winter is 0-5°C with snow; you can ski in Gudauri, and in snow you reach Gergeti by 4x4. April-May and September-October are ideal; the Kakheti grape harvest is in October.
  3. Turkish citizens enter with an ID card (1 year visa-free). Carry cash in GEL (ATMs available); cards are widely accepted. Khinkali costs 1 GEL each, khachapuri 12-18 GEL, a glass of wine 8 GEL and a bath 50-100 GEL. Tip 10%.
  4. Call ahead to book a private bath room (Chreli Abano). Haggle for a Gergeti 4x4 in town. Sighnaghi is full at weekends.
  5. Georgian feasts are called supra, led by a tamada (toastmaster). "Gaumarjos" means cheers. Hold khinkali by the top, sip the broth and leave the top.
  6. Kvevri amber wine (UNESCO), chacha (grape brandy), churchkhela, tkemali plum sauce and pkhali.
