Good to know: 6 things that make a Kuala Lumpur trip easier

  1. Use a Touch 'n Go card for the LRT and MRT. Grab taxis are cheap (5-15 MYR within the city). The KLIA Ekspres takes 28 minutes and costs 55 MYR.
  2. November to March is monsoon season: short, heavy downpours, so bring an umbrella. Temperatures stay around 30°C all year.
  3. Malaysian food draws on three cultures: nasi lemak (Malay), char kway teow (Chinese) and roti canai (Indian). Mamak restaurants are open 24 hours.
  4. Shoulders and knees must be covered in mosques and Hindu temples. At Batu Caves, monkeys snatch bags.
  5. Petronas Skybridge tickets sell out days ahead. KL Tower is an alternative with a better view.
  6. Alcohol is expensive because of taxes. Tipping is not expected, and a 10% service charge is added.
