Getting around: get an EZ-Link / contactless card

Works on the MRT and buses; a contactless bank card does the same job

Good to know: 6 things that make a Singapore trip easier

  1. Use a contactless card on the MRT. The city is small, and a taxi (Grab) costs 10-20 SGD. The MRT to Changi takes 45 minutes.
  2. Return your tray at hawker centres (there is a fine). Reserving a table with a tissue packet ('chope') is a local custom. A meal costs 5-8 SGD.
  3. November to January is monsoon season: daily downpours, so carry an umbrella. Temperatures stay around 30°C all year.
  4. Chewing gum is banned, and littering and smoking are fined. Supermarkets do not sell alcohol after 22:30.
  5. USS and Cloud Forest tickets are cheaper online. Some museums close on Mondays.
  6. No tipping: a 10% service charge and 9% GST are added.
