The TripWalkers Seville itinerary runs 7 days and lays out 35 stops, hour by hour, for June–September. The first three days:

  1. Day 1 Alcázar and Cathedral
  2. Day 2 Triana and Metropol
  3. Day 3 Córdoba

Staying less? Start with the first days — TripWalkers uses the opening days of this plan for shorter trips too. Days 3, 5 and 6 are day trips out of the city. Food, entry fees and local transport come to about €90 a day (excluding accommodation and flights).

Day 1 · 09:30–19:30

Alcázar and Cathedral

    Real Alcázar de Sevilla

    A Mudéjar palace (Dorne in Game of Thrones). Don't miss the Hall of Ambassadors and the gardens. Timed tickets must be booked online (buy weeks ahead). First slot is 09:30.

    Catedral de Sevilla & Giralda

    The world's largest Gothic cathedral. Columbus's tomb is here. The Giralda tower has 35 ramps (once ridden up on horseback). Book your ticket online.

    Barrio Santa Cruz

    The former Jewish quarter. Wander the orange-tree squares and Callejón del Agua.

    A tapas bar where the bill is chalked on the counter. Try the montadito pringá and eat standing up.

    Plaza de España

    The semicircular square built for the 1929 exposition. It has tiled benches for 48 provinces, rowing boats on the canal (6 EUR) and a Star Wars set. Go at sunset.

Triana and Metropol

    The market above San Jorge Castle. It has jamón and tapas stalls, and the Inquisition museum is beneath it.

    The riverfront and Centro Cerámica Triana (azulejo museum, 2 EUR). This is the home district of flamenco.

Córdoba

  1. Culture

    Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba

    45 minutes by AVE. A cathedral sits inside the Umayyad mosque with its 856 columns. Quiet entry is free Monday to Saturday, 08:30–09:30. Look out for the red-and-white arches.

    Judería & Calleja de las Flores

    The Jewish quarter. See the flower-lined alley, the 1315 synagogue and the Maimonides statue.

    A Roman bridge. You get a postcard view of the Guadalquivir and the Mezquita. The Patios festival takes place in May.

Cartuja, Bullring and Torre del Oro

  1. Culture

    Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza

    A Baroque bullring from 1761 with a museum; tour it, and corridas run April to September (controversial).

    An Almohad river tower from 1220. It has a maritime museum and a terrace.

Ronda

    Puente Nuevo Ronda

    2 hours by bus (or train plus bus). The 1793 bridge spans the 120 m deep El Tajo gorge. Hemingway's town.

    Spain's oldest bullring (1785). Modern bullfighting was born here. Goya.

Cádiz

    Cádiz Cathedral & Torre Tavira

    1.5 hours by train. Europe's oldest city (Phoenician, 1100 BC). It has a golden-domed cathedral and a camera obscura in the Tavira tower.

    A fish market and "rincón gastronómico" (food corner). Try tortillitas de camarones (shrimp fritters).

    The Weeping Virgin (star of Semana Santa). The treasury museum costs 5 EUR. Roman walls are nearby too.

Good to know: 6 things that make a Seville trip easier

  1. The centre is walkable. Tram/bus costs 1.40 EUR, and Sevici bikes are available. The EA airport bus is 4 EUR. Córdoba is 45 min by AVE, Cádiz 1.5 hours, Ronda 2 hours by bus.
  2. SUMMER hits 40–45°C (Europe's oven): sightsee between 09:00 and 12:00 and after 19:00, and take a siesta at midday. Go to the Alcázar in the first slot and Plaza de España at sunset. In August the city is empty.
  3. Alcázar 15 EUR, online booking REQUIRED (buy weeks ahead). Cathedral 13 EUR, online. Tapas 3–4 EUR, set menu 15, flamenco 22–35. Round up your tip.
  4. Tapas culture: eat standing up, visit 2–3 bars, and order "tapa/media/ración". Lunch is at 14:00, dinner after 21:00. Try salmorejo, espinacas, pringá and carrillada.
  5. Flamenco: Casa de la Memoria (intimate), La Carbonería (free, late at night), Triana peñas (flamenco clubs).
  6. The fruit of the orange trees is bitter (used for marmalade). Don't eat it.
