The TripWalkers Seville itinerary runs 7 days and lays out 35 stops, hour by hour, for October–May. The first three days:

  1. Day 1 Alcázar and Cathedral
  2. Day 2 Triana and the Metropol
  3. Day 3 Córdoba

Alcázar and Cathedral

    A Mudéjar palace (Dorne in Game of Thrones) with the Hall of Ambassadors and gardens. Timed online tickets are essential, so book weeks ahead. First slot is 09:30.

    The world's largest Gothic cathedral, with Columbus's tomb. The Giralda tower has 35 ramps, built so riders could go up on horseback. Book tickets online.

    The old Jewish quarter, with orange-tree squares and Callejón del Agua.

    45 minutes by AVE. An Umayyad mosque of 856 columns with a cathedral inside, and red-and-white arches. Free quiet entry 08:30-09:30 (Monday to Saturday).

    The Jewish quarter, with a flower-lined alley, a synagogue from 1315 and Maimonides.

    A Baroque bullring from 1761 with a museum. Tours run daily; corridas (controversial) take place April to September.

    Puente Nuevo Ronda

    2 hours by bus (or train plus bus). The 1793 bridge spans the 120 m El Tajo gorge, in Hemingway's town.

    1.5 hours by train. Western Europe's oldest city (Phoenician, 1100 BC), with a golden-domed cathedral and a camera obscura in the Tavira tower.

Good to know: 6 things that make a Seville trip easier

  1. The centre is walkable. Tram and bus cost 1.40 EUR, there is a Sevici bike scheme, and the EA airport bus costs 4 EUR. Córdoba is 45 min by AVE, Cádiz 1.5 hours, and Ronda 2 hours by bus.
  2. April brings Semana Santa (Holy Week processions) and the Feria de April two weeks later, with casetas and horse carriages and hotels full. Either avoid it or embrace it. Winter is sunny at 15°C, which is ideal; orange blossom comes in March.
  3. Alcázar 15 EUR, online ticket essential (book weeks ahead). Cathedral 13 EUR, online. Tapas 3-4 EUR, set menu 15 EUR, flamenco 22-35 EUR. For a tip, round up the bill.
  4. Tapas culture: eat standing, visit 2-3 bars and order a tapa, media or ración. Lunch is at 14:00 and dinner after 21:00. Look out for salmorejo, espinacas, pringá and carrillada.
  5. Flamenco: Casa de la Memoria (intimate), La Carbonería (free, late) and the Triana peñas.
  6. Orange-tree fruit is bitter (used for marmalade), so do not eat it.
