Good to know: 6 things that make a Nice trip easier

  1. A Lignes d'Azur ticket costs 1.50 EUR (bus and tram), a day pass 5. TER trains run along the coast (Monaco 20 min, Cannes 30 min). Tram 2 goes to the airport.
  2. Summer temperatures are 27-30°C. Beaches are pebbly, so buy beach shoes. Cannes-Antibes trains get crowded; go to Èze and Monaco in the morning. July brings Nice Jazz, and August the French holidays.
  3. Socca 4 EUR, pan bagnat 6, salade niçoise 15, restaurant meals 25-40, museums 10 (Nice museum pass 15 EUR for 3 days); round up the bill as a tip.
  4. Monaco casino is for tourists before 14:00, with a dress code in the evening; visit Èze in the morning; La Colombe d'Or and La Merenda: reserve ahead, and La Merenda takes no phone bookings.
  5. Watch for pickpockets on Tram 1 and at Cours Saleya; never leave your belongings unattended on the beach.
  6. Try Rosé de Provence, pastis and tarte tropézienne; Niçoise cuisine is a mix of Italian and Provençal.
