  1. A Lignes d'Azur ticket costs 1.50 EUR (bus and tram), or 5 EUR for a day pass; TER trains run along the coast (Monaco 20 min, Cannes 30 min). Tram 2 goes to the airport.
  2. Winter is sunny at 12-15°C (Europe's winter retreat). February brings the Nice Carnival and the Menton Lemon Festival. April-May and October are ideal, and the sea is warm enough for swimming until October.
  3. Socca 4 EUR, pan bagnat 6, salade niçoise 15, restaurants 25-40, museums 10 (Nice museum pass 15 EUR/3 days); round up the bill for a tip.
  4. Monaco's casino is open to tourists before 14:00 and has an evening dress code; go to Èze in the morning; book ahead for La Colombe d'Or, and remember La Merenda has no phone.
  5. Watch for pickpockets on tram 1 and at Cours Saleya; don't leave belongings on the beaches.
  6. Rosé de Provence, pastis, tarte tropézienne; Nice's cuisine blends Italian and Provençal.
