Good to know: 6 things that make a Kuala Lumpur trip easier
- Use a Touch 'n Go card for the LRT and MRT; Grab taxis are cheap (5-15 MYR within the city). The KLIA Ekspres takes 28 minutes and costs 55 MYR.
- Summer (June-September) is relatively dry, but expect 33°C and humidity. Afternoon downpours are common, so sightsee in the morning.
- Malaysian food blends three cultures: nasi lemak (Malay), char kway teow (Chinese) and roti canai (Indian). Mamak restaurants are open 24 hours.
- Shoulders and knees must be covered in mosques and Hindu temples. At Batu Caves, monkeys snatch bags.
- Petronas Skybridge tickets sell out days ahead; KL Tower is an alternative with better views.
- Alcohol is expensive because of tax. Tipping is not expected, and a 10% service charge is added.
