Good to know: 6 things that make a Munich trip easier

  1. An MVV day ticket costs about 9 EUR; the S-Bahn to the airport takes 40 minutes. For Neuschwanstein, take the Bayern-Ticket (train and bus) or a tour.
  2. In December there are Christmas markets (Marienplatz, Tollwood); in winter it is around 0°C with snow. The Alps and Neuschwanstein are under snow, and the beer halls are warm.
  3. A Mass of beer costs 15 EUR (16+ at Oktoberfest), Brezn 2 EUR, Schweinshaxe 20 EUR; you can bring your own food to a beer garden. When tipping, round up the bill.
  4. Eat Weisswurst before noon and peel off the skin; it comes with sweet mustard.
  5. Museums cost 1 EUR on Sundays (the Pinakothek galleries); book Neuschwanstein tickets online weeks ahead.
  6. The Dachau memorial is free and open on Mondays; please stay quiet and respectful.
