Good to know: 6 things that make a Frankfurt trip easier

  1. RMV day ticket 6 EUR (central zone). The airport is 15 minutes by S-Bahn (Europe's main transfer hub). Take the RE train to Heidelberg and Rüdesheim; the Hessen-Ticket is cheap for groups.
  2. December brings the Römerberg Christmas market (one of Germany's oldest). Winter is 0-5°C, so plan for museums (2-day Museumsufer ticket) and concerts at the Alte Oper. Spring is the time for the Palmengarten.
  3. Apfelwein 0.3 l 2.50 EUR (served in a Bembel jug), Grüne Soße 12, Schnitzel 18, museums 8-18. Round up the bill as a tip.
  4. Museumsufer Ticket 21 EUR for 34 museums over 2 days. Städel closed Mondays; Kleinmarkthalle closed Sundays; flea market on Saturdays.
  5. The Bahnhofsviertel (station district) has a drug scene: pass through by day and avoid it at night. For evening bars, head to Sachsenhausen.
  6. Frankfurter Würstchen, Handkäs mit Musik (onion-marinated cheese), Bethmännchen (marzipan-almond cookies), Frankfurter Kranz.
