Good to know: 6 things that make a Bali trip easier

  1. Bali has no public transport: use a scooter (international licence and helmet), Grab/Gojek or a car with a driver by the day (~700,000 IDR). Allow 1-2 hours of traffic between Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu.
  2. April to October is the dry season, ideal for surfing, Batur and Penida. July and August are crowded and expensive.
  3. Sarongs and sashes are compulsory at temples (provided at the entrance). Do not enter during menstruation, and be respectful on ceremony days.
  4. Babi guling costs 40-60,000 IDR at a warung and nasi campur 30-50,000. Beach club minimum spend is 300-500,000.
  5. Monkeys (Uluwatu, Monkey Forest) snatch glasses and phones. Do not show them food.
  6. Take the morning boat from Sanur for the Nusa Penida tour. The Kelingking descent is difficult, so looking from above is enough.
