Good to know: 6 things that make a Bali trip easier

  1. There is no public transport in Bali: use a scooter (international licence and helmet), Grab/Gojek or a car with a driver by the day (~700,000 IDR). Allow 1-2 hours of traffic between Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu.
  2. November to March is the rainy season: expect afternoon downpours, possible Penida boat cancellations and a cloudy Batur. Sightsee in the morning and save spas and cafes for later.
  3. Temples require a sarong and sash (provided at the entrance). Women cannot enter during menstruation, and ceremony days call for respect.
  4. Babi guling costs 40-60,000 IDR at a warung and nasi campur 30-50,000. Beach club minimum spend is 300-500,000.
  5. Monkeys (Uluwatu, Monkey Forest) snatch glasses and phones. Don't show them food.
  6. Take the Nusa Penida tour on the morning boat from Sanur. The Kelingking descent is hard, so the view from the top is enough.
