Getting around: get a PRESTO Card
Valid on the TTC subway, streetcars and buses, and on GO trains. A contactless bank card works too.
Good to know: 6 things that make a Toronto trip easier
- Pay for the TTC with a PRESTO or contactless card. The UP Express to Pearson takes 25 minutes. For Niagara, take the GO train (direct in summer) or a tour.
- Winter brings -10°C and snow. Use the PATH underground walkway network (30 km), the Nathan Phillips ice rink and the Distillery Christmas market (November to December). Niagara's falls partly freeze.
- CityPASS costs 130 CAD for 5 attractions. Museums cost 25-30 CAD and the CN Tower 45 CAD. Tax (13%) is not included in prices, and tips are 18-20%.
- St. Lawrence Market is closed on Mondays. Kensington is pedestrian-only on Sundays.
- Try poutine, peameal bacon sandwiches and butter tarts. The cuisine is multicultural (Chinatown, Little Italy, Greektown).
- The islands ferry gets very busy in summer. Book timed tickets online.
