Good to know: 6 things that make a Tel Aviv trip easier

  1. Use a Rav-Kav card for buses and light rail (since 2023); bikes and scooters are everywhere. The airport train takes 15 minutes (it does NOT run on Shabbat, from Friday evening to Saturday evening, so take a taxi). Trains run to Haifa.
  2. Summer is 30-33°C with 70% humidity. Go to the beach at sunrise or sunset and to museums at midday. Pride is in June and August is the most humid.
  3. SAFETY: The regional situation is changeable. Check official travel advice, use the Home Front Command app and follow shelter instructions.
  4. Hummus 35-50 ILS, falafel 20-25, breakfast 50-70, restaurant meal 120-180. It is an expensive city; tip 12-15% (cash preferred). Cards are accepted everywhere.
  5. Shabbat: from Friday sunset to Saturday evening most places close, but the beach, Jaffa and restaurants stay open. Markets are liveliest on Friday morning.
  6. Buses 405 and 480 reach Jerusalem in 1 hour (not on Shabbat); a day trip is possible.
