Good to know: 6 things that make a Tel Aviv trip easier

  1. Rav-Kav card; buses and light rail (since 2023); bikes and scooters are everywhere. The airport train takes 15 minutes (on Shabbat, from Friday evening to Saturday evening, it does NOT run: take a taxi). Train to Haifa.
  2. Winter is 15-20°C, rainy but with sunny days too. April-May and October are ideal; check the dates of Pesach and Yom Kippur (everything closes).
  3. SAFETY: The regional situation changes; check official travel advisories, use the Home Front Command app and follow shelter instructions.
  4. Hummus 35-50 ILS, falafel 20-25, breakfast 50-70, restaurant 120-180; an expensive city, tip 12-15% (cash preferred). Cards are accepted everywhere.
  5. Shabbat: from Friday sunset to Saturday evening most places close, but the beach, Jaffa and restaurants stay open; markets are liveliest on Friday morning.
  6. Buses 405/480 to Jerusalem take 1 hour (not on Shabbat); a day trip is possible.
