Getting around: get an EasyCard

  1. EasyCard works on the MRT, buses and YouBike. Eating and drinking are banned on the MRT (you will be fined). The MRT to Taoyuan Airport takes 40 minutes.
  2. Summer brings 33°C heat and humidity, and July to September carries a typhoon risk (everything closes under a T8 signal). Sightsee in the morning, visit museums or malls in the afternoon, and go to night markets in the cooler evening.
  3. Night markets run 18:00-24:00, and 300 TWD is enough to eat your fill. Tipping is not expected, and cash is still widely used.
  4. For Jiufen, Shifen and Yehliu, take a tour (~1,500 TWD) or bus 1062. Go to Jiufen in the afternoon, as the lanterns light up after 17:00.
  5. Take a queue number at Din Tai Fung. Noodles at Yongkang and Lin Dong Fang cost 250 TWD.
