Good to know: 6 things that make a Sharm El Sheikh trip easier

  1. Haggle for taxis (Naama to Old Market 100-150 EGP) or use the hotel shuttle; Uber/Careem are limited. The airport is 15 minutes away. Tours leave from your hotel (Ras Mohammed, Tiran, Sinai, safari).
  2. November to March is sunny at 22-25°C (Europe's winter refuge), the sea is 21-23°C and nights are cool. The Sinai summit can hit -5°C with snow in winter. January is the busiest month.
  3. Sinai visa: a free 15-day "Sinai only" stamp covers Sharm, Dahab and Sinai alone; you can't go on to Cairo. Turkish citizens can get an e-visa or a visa on arrival for 25 USD.
  4. Tour prices in USD: Ras Mohammed 40-60, Tiran 50, Sinai 40, safari 35-60, trial dive 90. Restaurants 200-400 EGP; tip 20-50 EGP everywhere.
  5. Don't step on the coral: it's banned and fined. Use reef-friendly sun cream and bring water shoes. Women can dress casually in the resort, but cover up in the Old Market.
  6. Sinai calamari, Egyptian breakfast (ful, taameya), koshari and umm ali dessert. Alcohol is served in hotels.
