Good to know: 6 things that make a Da Nang trip easier

  1. Grab (moto or car) is cheap; a scooter costs 150,000 VND a day (an international licence is required). Hoi An is 45 minutes away; the airport is inside the city.
  2. From October to January expect rain and floods (Hoi An can go under water), with temperatures of 20-25°C. February to May is ideal (dry, 28°C). The Hoi An lantern festival takes place every month at full moon.
  3. The Vietnam e-visa is valid for 90 days (e-visa for Turkish citizens). Use cash in VND (1 USD ≈ 25,000, ASSUMPTION); cards are only accepted in hotels.
  4. Bánh mì costs 25,000-30,000 VND, mì quảng 40,000, a restaurant meal 150,000-250,000, Ba Na 950,000 and the Hoi An ticket 120,000. There is no tipping; haggle at markets.
  5. Get to Ba Na at the 08:00 opening (the Golden Bridge is empty) and Mỹ Sơn at 07:00. Visit the Marble Mountains in the morning; the Dragon Bridge show is on Saturdays and Sundays at 21:00.
  6. Try cao lầu (Hoi An), mì quảng, bánh xèo, salt coffee and egg coffee. Street food is safe; pick a busy stall.
