Good to know: 6 things that make a Baku trip easier

  1. BakiKart (metro/bus 0.50 AZN); Bolt taxis are cheap. The H1 bus runs to the airport. For Gobustan and Sheki, take a tour or hire a car.
  2. Summer brings 30-35°C and the Baku wind (Khazri); Caspian beach at Bilgah, the Boulevard in the evening; the F1 Grand Prix is held in June (the city centre closes).
  3. Turkish citizens get 30 days visa-free (with ID card since 2025); 1 manat ≈ 0.6 USD; kutab 2 AZN, piti 8, restaurant meals 20-30, museums 5-15; tip 10%.
  4. The Flame Towers light up after 21:00; Yanar Dag is best in the evening; Heydar Aliyev Center is closed on Mondays.
  5. Piti, kutab, plov (shah plov), dolma, levengi, Sheki halva, pomegranate juice, pear-shaped glass tea with jam.
  6. Turkish is understood (Azerbaijani Turkish); Russian is widespread. An oil city: pumps at Bibi-Heybat.
