Getting around: get a Troika Card

Covers the metro, buses and trams. Moscow's metro stations are among the most beautiful in the world.

Good to know: 6 things that make a Moscow trip easier

  1. Use a Troika card for the metro (some of the world's most beautiful stations, worth a tour in themselves) and Yandex Go for taxis. Aeroexpress serves the airports.
  2. Visa: Turkish citizens can stay 60 days visa-free; others need an e-visa. Foreign bank cards do not work (2026), so carry cash roubles or a MIR card. Google Pay is unavailable.
  3. Summer brings 22-28°C and light until 22:00: perfect for parks, river boats and cycling in Gorky Park.
  4. Pelmeni cost 400-600 RUB, a Georgian restaurant 1,500-2,500 and a stolovaya 300. Tip 10%.
  5. Book the Kremlin and Armoury online 2 weeks ahead. Lenin's Mausoleum opens Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, with a 30-minute queue.
  6. In churches, women should cover their heads and men remove their hats. Photography may be banned inside.
